What is 3D Secure?

3D Secure (3DS) is a technical standard that was created by Visa and MasterCard to further secure card transactions made online (over the internet). Due to European security regulations, our provider (and therefore ourselves) have enrolled on the 3D Secure scheme and we have made the necessary changes to ensure we are compliant. Thanks to this changes, we are fully enrolled and compliant with the 3D Secure card protection scheme. 

What does this mean for Sunlight?

We have made some changes to our request process in order to be fully compliant with new European security regulations. One such change is an added extra step before making your card available, in which we ask that you input your mobile number so that you can receive the authorization codes when making a purchase. But don't worry, you will only need to register your number once!

How will this look when creating an order?

If you do not have your phone number registered on Sunlight, we have added a new step to the order creation process. On this step you will be asked to register your phone number in order for your card to work correctly. Once you have added your number once, you do not need to worry about it again :)

What happens to any orders created before this was enabled?

When you open your order to try to use your card, you will see a small pop-up box where you will be able to add your number. Once again, this will only happen once, provided that you do not have your phone number already registered on your Sunlight profile. When you have done it the first time, the option to register it will not appear again as your number will have already been registered.

How do you edit your phone number?

Sometimes we change our phone numbers or make a mistake when registering it. Some other times, we prefer to just go for it and do things before we are asked. If either is your case, you can add your phone number directly to your profile and skip any extra steps when you want to use your Sunlight :) To do this, just go to your profile, open your settings and edit the field which asks for your phone number. Once done, just click on "Save" and you will be set!

Why do we have to do this?

As explained before, we are doing this for compliance reasons. From now on, any provider can send an authentication code before allowing you to complete your purchase. In order to avoid any unnecessary friction, we are taking all the steps to make sure you can use our cards successfully without 3DS being an issue.
