Setting up our Slack integration can help improve your Sunlight experience, by integrating your team's learning journey into their everyday routine. With just a few clicks, all your Sunlight notifications are ready and available on your company's Slack channel of your preference.

How to set this up

To set it up, all you have to do is go to your company's profile, scroll down on the left-side menu until you reach to "Settings" and then, click on the last option called "Integrations". You'll find here a couple of the apps we currently integrate with, Slack being one of them. To connect, simply click on the "Connect an account" button and follow the steps.

You'll be taken to a screen where you’ll authorize the sync between Slack and Sunlight. Select the channel which you choose to connect with your main company and authorize the integration.

Once you’re ready, click on "Install" and the integration will be ready :)

A few tips:

A Sunlight channel

We recommend creating a Slack channel dedicated to learning, so that all the company's Sunlight-related activities can be in one place. This avoids extra noise in other channels which would only cause Sunlight notifications to be ignored. All public notifications will be sent to this channel, while the private ones (regarding order approvals, etc.) will be sent through our bot directly to the users who need to be notified.

Create channels

When you integrate your Slack to Sunlight, you'll automatically see your channels; however, you can create brand new ones from your Sunlight account. Just go to your “Integrations” section and click on “Create a new Slack Channel.”

Migrate your team members

Finally, you can select to automatically add new Sunlight members to their respective Slack channels. This will save you having to add them individually to each Slack channel they’d need to belong to.

A channel for your team

If you have teams, departments or groups, and each of them has their own Slack channel, you could assign these as well. This way, you’ll have one main Slack channel to see the whole company’s purchases, and the more specific ones for your separate teams.

To select a Slack channel for your team, you’d have to go to your Cohort’s page, click on a cohort and go to the “Slack setup” tab.

While purchase notifications will be sent to your main Slack channel, Sunlight will send notifications to your cohort’s channels each time a resource is shared or a new resource is added to a cohort’s playlist.

Our Slack integration is a great way to blend everything that is happening on Sunlight with your day to day work. It helps to keep everyone up to date with what’s going on in your Sunlight group, ultimately supporting you to cultivate the amazing learning culture that we want to help create.
