How To Create a Request

Learn how to request a resource from outside and inside our Sunlight platform.

With Sunlight, you can purchase any learning resource almost anywhere in the world. In our platform, you can find a large variety of resources and request one of them; however, you can also create a request to purchase something outside Sunlight. Here, we’ll learn how to do both.

Requesting a resource outside Sunlight

Once you log in, you'll be taken to the Sunlight homepage. From there, you have three different routes, but they all lead to Rome:

  1. You can either go to the left side menu and click on the multi-colored blinking sun icon.

  2. Go to your to-dos and click on "Use your Sunlight!"

  3. Click on the phrase "place a new request" right below our words of greeting.

In any case, a modal will display asking what type of item you'd like to request, like a book, an online course, or an event. Once you select one of the options, please add the URL of what you'd like to purchase so that we can find out more information about it.

Then, you'll be shown all the information we found on it. If it's something that has already been added to Sunlight, most of it’ll already be filled for you just to confirm. If it's something we have not seen before, we'll ask you to help us by providing some more information.

Requesting a resource in Sunlight

If you already found a resource in Sunlight, you can simply click on the green request button, then the same side modal as before will appear so you can confirm the details of your request.

In this case, before creating your request, we recommend clicking on “View more” to check if the resource is still available on the provider’s site or if the price has not changed; remember that the “Last seen” price we show is referential, as we show the last price at which the resource was bought. We allow our users to edit the currency and price of the resource when they’re making a request because these should match the ones they see on the provider’s website so that they can pay for their resource without any issues.

Confirm your request’s details

In any of the cases mentioned above, you’ll have to confirm specific details when creating your request. These are some of them:

1. Private request

You can choose if you want your request to be “private” which means that it’ll not be shared on the company feeds nor on your profile.

2. Subscription request

You can also enable the option to create a subscription, and the request will renew automatically every month or year, depending on your needs. To learn more about subscriptions, please visit our article “Subscription requests”.

3. Price

In this step, you’ll have to confirm how much you'll need to purchase what you want. We’ll be generating a virtual debit card for you to complete your request, so remember to double-check the provider's website for the price and currency and add in any extras you might need, like shipping or tax-related costs.

4. Wallets

Simply choose your company wallet you'd like to take the funds from, and you're done!

That's it! What happens next?

If you're using a group wallet that needs approval, a notification will be sent to someone at your company to approve the request. Once they do, we'll let you know and we’ll generate a virtual prepaid debit card for you to complete your purchase on the provider’s website.

If the wallet you used needs no approvals, then you're good just to go ahead and use the card on the provider’s website. You can view the status of all your requests by clicking on "Requests", which is the 7th button on your sidebar.

To answer a few questions you might have:

Can I use two wallets in one request?

No, you can use one wallet per request; if your company gave you two budgets, let’s say one for wellbeing and another one for professional development, then you cannot use these two together in one request.

I see a card in my request, now what?

After creating the request, you’ll see a green card available for you. Now, you’ll need to go to the provider’s website and use your card there as you’d use any personal debit or credit card. If you need more information on this, please go to our article "How to use my Sunlight card."

I do not know what to buy, what can I do?

If you do not know what you want, feel free to search and browse throughout Sunlight. We have thousands of interesting learning resources and playlists waiting to be discovered. Once you find something you like, just look out for the request button and click on it to request it!

How can I search for learning resources?

Just click on "Search" (4th button in the sidebar) and then type in what you're looking for. Press enter to view all results or choose the categories you’d want to see. To see this in more detail, please read our article “Search any resource on Sunlight”.
